Love, Copenhagen

Love, Copenhagen

Thanks for all the positive feedback on Cozy Hour in the Cooks garden. It has been a pleasure to see many of you coming out to Grand Avenue and experiencing a bit of wine and connection among the lovely raised beds and fellow community members, friends, customers and guests. The perfect summer evening~

We've received inquiries about our recent travels, in particular the trip to CPH that inspired Cozy Hour. Truth be told, it’s more than a quick visit. Copenhagen is one of our favorite places, anywhere. And we're stepping outside our box! Here’s a bit of a curated itinerary of our highlights of Copenhagen … the things we loved, were inspired by and definitely would do again.

We hope this will scratch your travel itch in a way that takes you there. Then you can report back to us!

Getting around ...

Copenhagen is one of the most walkable cities in Europe and we love to embrace the walk… or bike! Particularly, when the weather is nice. When it’s challenging, the metro system is fantastic.

First thing, the Rejsekort-App is a lifesaver. Download and set it up before you leave Minnesota. Turn it on when you jump on a train and the app does its thing in the background. No tickets, no fumbling. It tracks your progress and sends you a receipt after.

We migrate toward the city center. Central and convenient. Plus, it's the yellow line direct from Kastrup Airport. Nørreport and Kongens Nytorv are central stops.

Stay ...

Hotel Kong Arthur — Can you say Cozy Hour!

71 Nyhavn Hotel

What to do ...

Put on your walking shoes! Every day is 20,000 steps!!

Walk across the bridge through Nyhavn. No cars only bikes.

Tour the Opera House — design and story are very interesting. Worth it!

SAS Royal Hotel — Arne Jacobsen designed this hotel in the 1950s and it's been lovingly maintained as such. Very cool. You can still request Room 606. Preserved circa 1960, Arne's absolute original design, with all the furnishings.

Walk through King’s Garden — sweet little coffee shop tucked in there, in an old greenhouse.

Walk! Get lost. It's not a huge city; the parks are all really good.

Resturants ...

Apollo — in the Kunsthal Charlottenborg Palace/Art Gallery

Bento — tiny delicious Japanese — so authentic, like 10 tables, mother-daughter situation … old

Superbon — Asian, Located in the Meatpacking District

Restaurant Anton — Smørrebrød

Tom’s Oyster Shack — just because it’s sweet and on the canal across from Paper Island on the way to Danish Royal Academy. Tinned fish and oysters

Paesàno — small plate, unique delicious, Nørrebro neighborhood

Cafés & bakeries ...

We are always on the hunt for the best cinnamon and cardamom buns!

Albatross & Venner

Skt. Peders Bageri — oldest bakery in CPH, in the Latin district

Hart Bageri — many locations throughout the city

Wine Bar ...

Pompette, Nørrebro neighborhood.

There are many others — we happen to gather inspiration from the wine tasting here. Apparently, we aren't the only fans (aka Dua Lipa)

Markets ...

Torvehallerne-Nørreport — cafés, coffee, smørrebrød all over the place. Take a stroll through, lots to discover … and taste!

Shops ...

Great yarn shops! All around the city. A couple to check out:

  • Uldstedet — city center

  • Ulden — Østerbro neighborhood

Illums Bolighus — design department store

Magasin — if you need a good old fashioned department store fix

Illum — high end department store, good assortment of local designers

Ganni outlet — Christiana

Strøget (walking street in city center) — find the water tower, climb to the top and get a view of the city

H. Skjalm P. — kitchen store where we always find inspiration for merchandising and product ideas

Art, design & muesums ...

Designmuseum Danmark and Finn Juhl Museum — Charlottenlund, train ride north of city — super interesting, worth it.

Louisiana Museum — A MUST. Train ride north of city. This sweet spot is worth a trip to Copenhagen … all by itself, really good café.

Karen Blixen Museum/House café — Rungsted. Train ride north of city, sweet café.

Danish Architecture Center

Nordic Art Museum — Nyhavn

Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts / Kunsthal Charlottenborg Gallery
